Charli XCX Officially 'Doing It' in a Video
EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Grammy-nominated breakthrough artist Charli XCX officially unveils her new single "Doing It" (featuring Rita Ora) with a dazzling video -- streaming today on BuzzFeed -- directed by Adam Powell (The 1975), produced by Nina Dluhy-Miller, and written by Charlotte Aitchison (aka Charli XCX).
The video was filmed in the desert outside of Los Angeles and was inspired by iconic movies such as "Thelma & Louise" and "Natural Born Killers." Watch as the two partners-in-crime cruise through the desert in a pink monster truck, donning wrestling masks, evading [male stripper?!] police and raising hell every step of the way... and that's just the tip of the iceberg!
Of the video, Charli says "Rita is just someone who I get. She has so much to give as an artist and as a person, she knows how to be a real and have a wild time. 'Doing It' was something I played to her ages ago and she loved it, so I thought I should definitely get her on it. We shot the video in the middle of the Californian desert - it was amazing. I wanted it to be like this badass Barbie Thelma and Louise-esque video, so we robbed a store with toy guns, rode a bucking bronco and nearly crashed a pink pick-up truck through the desert. Angels, I can't wait for you to see this video and finally hear Sucker in full."
Rita Ora adds, "I had a blast making this video with Charli, I think you'll be able to tell how much fun it was when you see it!"
"Doing It" was produced by Ariel Rechtshaid (Beyonc, HAIM) and Mr. Rogers, written in the spring of 2014 whilst Charli was hauled up in Trevor Horne's Bel Air pad with her friends, songwriting and collaborating. The Charli/Rita collaboration is set to firmly bring girl power into full force in 2015. Charli XCX received two Grammy nominations for this year's awards show for co-writing and featuring on Iggy Azalea's smash-hit "Fancy," which is nominated for Best Pop Duo or Group, and Best Song of the Year.
Charli XCX hasn't slowed down since the release of "SUCKER" in December, which received critical acclaim and topped year-end lists worldwide. She will be the main supporting artist on Katy Perry's arena tour in February and March, which she's following up with a string of UK dates, including one at London's prestigious Shepherd's Bush Empire. Charli XCX will also perform at this year's Governor's Ball in New York.
