Watch: Benson Boone Sheds His Shirt and Soaps Up for 'Mr Electric Blue'

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Benson Boone is poking fun at himself, owning the haters, and having a wild, wet, and sudsy good time in his new video, "Mr Electric Blue."

Although (or maybe because) he had a global #1 last year with "Beautiful Things," trolls have slammed Boone and his songs, hurling smears against his talent, his stage costumes (including his famous blue jumpsuit), and his signature backflip.

Boone crushed all that hate and made lemonade: "Mr Electric Blue" is a rollicking, summery confection that finds him sporting a "One Hit Wonder" T-shirt, broke, and owning millions to his record label.

With only a few days to pay off his enormous debt, Boone takes every odd job he can manage, and dresses down... waaay down... for each one – dog walking in a T-shirt emblazoned with the word "Inauthentic," slinging ice cream in a crop top and headband, strutting along behind a lawn mower in denim Daisy Dukes and a sleeveless tee, putting on the blue jumpsuit for a street side gig flipping a sign, donning swim trunks and sunglasses for pool boy chores, and, yes, even resorting to that tried-and-true summertime fundraiser, washing cars.

Shirtless, and decked out in the shortest of red shorts and scads of soapy suds, Boone nails every sizzling stereotype of the car wash, shaking water in a sexy spray from his luxurious mane, stretching out across the soaped-up hood of a muscle car, and striking a coy pose with a wink at the camera.

Throughout the video, he doubles down on deflating the hate and turning it into a punchline. At one point he flirts with a female car wash customer, who rejects him out of hand before driving off; her bumper sticker reads, "Mustaches are lame."

"Hey, you're that guy who sings 'Beautiful Things,'" a young girl says at another point, as he serves ice cream cones from a truck.

Flattered, Boone acknowledges the hit.

"Your music is terrible!" the child sneers – and Boone sneers right back, devouring her ice cream with a single bite.

Delicious!
