Size really does matter, as "Swift Horses" star Diego Clava found out when he had to crane his neck to kiss towering co-star Jacob Elordi for the film's romantic scenes. But kissing his 6'5" co-star was just the start; Calva says getting naked with Elordi was "intimidating."
"He was laughing at me!" Calva disclosed, according to Deadline. "He's way taller – I had like a neck pain for the first week from just kissing."
When it came to moments involving more than kissing, Calva said, there was still more angst.
"Believe me, being naked around Jacob Elordi is intimidating!" the "Babylon" star related. "He's like a fucking god!"
Calva went on to add that Elordi – who also memorably starred with Barry Keoghan in the erotic thriller "Saltburn" and shared the screen with out actor Zachary Quinto in "He Went That Way" – is "too perfect," and exclaimed, "It's hard not to do a hot scene with Jacob shirtless!"
Calva and Elordi play lovers in 1950s California in the wake of the Korean war. The storyline concerns Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones), the wife of Lee (Will Poulter), as she and Lee move to San Diego and Muriel discovers a love of betting on horse races... as well as a connection with her new neighbor, Sandra (Sasha Calle).
Elordi plays Lee's brother, Julius, a card sharp and former U.S. serviceman. Julius survived the war in Korea and now, working in a casino in Las Vegas, finds love with Henry (Calva) despite the homophobic climate of '50s America.
Elordi opened up to Vanity Fair about depicting the secretive affair, and enacting its sex scenes, in an interview last September. Describing how director Daniel Minahan – who also directed the queer-themed miniseries "Fellow Travelers" and "Halston" – approached the sex scenes, Elordi told Vanity Fair that "We had a week of intensive [prep] in the motel room, and Dan gave us a lot of freedom to run around and to play and to find that love within those four walls."
"On Swift Horses" is in theaters now. Watch the trailer below.
