EDGE Interview: Mr. Teddy Bear Fans Love his Hairy Situations
Timothy Rawles READ TIME: 4 MIN.
It was platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram that made adult content creator Mr. Teddy Bear popular. Add in self-publishing adult content site JustFor.Fans (JFF), and a star was born. "I am the hairiest guy on JFF; I don't shave or trim anything. So, if you're into seeing a real life werewolf fuck like a primal beast, you're gonna love my page."
That is quite an assertion, and, given that he is in the top 20% of creators on JustFor.Fans, not hyperbole. However, the title is more than just a gimmick for him; it's something he is passionate about.
"JustFor.Fans is run by adult workers, so I always have felt more accepted for what I do here. Plus, I can actually say words like 'bareback' and 'piss' and not get in trouble," he laughs.
Mr. Teddy Bear, as he likes to be called, is originally from rural Pennsylvania. He says that he grew up in the part of the state located in the middle of nowhere – "in the woods," as he tells EDGE. He moved to California, and that is where he resides today.
The adult content market is an ever-growing industry. Having made over $58 billion in revenue last year, it's projected to reach $74 billion by 2030. Sites such as JustFor.Fans are undoubtedly factored into that gross, and people such as Mr. Teddy Bear are driving its bottom line.
Self-publishing adult content is a relatively new concept, but creators love it because they can make videos that express who they really are sexually without prejudice, and followers with the same taste can personalize their bookmarks. It used to be that sexually explicit entertainment was only available through major industry studios, but that is no longer the case.
"I don't think people really sign to major studios anymore," Mr. Teddy Bear contends. "Sites like JFF has made it possible to be your own studio. Though I do miss the old days – and existence – of Colt studio."
Colt was once a major independent studio known for filming gay erotica. It started in 1967, and is still around today. They still make videos, but may be best known for their vintage films featuring hypermasculine men with large muscles. That aesthetic is definitely one that Mr. Teddy Bear embodies.
"Working out is like my therapy," he says. "It calms my mind. Plus, it's part of my work, and I do that with gratitude."
Still, keeping fit is only half the work for a self-publisher. Mr. Teddy Bear does more than cardio and lifting weights behind the scenes. When asked what the hardest part to getting ready for a scene is, his answer is surprising, but logical.
"I would say setting up lights and cameras, and testing out the angles before you film," he says. "I do all of it myself, so it's about an hour process before the filming even starts. It's the less fun part of the scene, but it has to be done if you want the end product to look beautiful."
Making things look beautiful goes beyond his videos. Mr. Teddy Bear is also an entrepreneur who creates merch with a pop culture twist. His online shop is filled with clothing and other items that celebrate the American consumer, using recognizable logos with a twist. For instance, he created an orange beanie that resembles a popular laundry detergent logo, the iconic font reading, "Bear." Another, smacking of a popular peanut butter cup brand, reads simply, "Daddie's."
It's not surprising that he has an eye for style. "I studied fashion design, which comes in handy for my merch line that I've been running for five years."
With his artistic flair and eye for graphic design, how did he get into the sex industry?
"I was a go-go dancer, turned model, turned adult content creator," he laughs. "It's the typical evolution."
Mr. Teddy Bear is aware that being in such a demanding industry requires constant uploads. It's what pays the bills, and, more importantly, what keeps him motivated and his fans wanting more.
"I post two full videos a week: One collab and one solo. Plus, I post pictures every single day, as well as do fan request custom videos – not to mention, all of my videos can be watched instantly, as I do not hide any of them behind pay-per-view paywalls."
It's a bold business plan that might not work for others. It's also a way to make diverse content easily available to someone who can't afford the fee to a major adult video site. At $6.99 a month, Mr. Teddy Bear is not only helping people embrace their diverse sexual freedoms, but helping them save money, too.
"Thanks to sites like JFF, it is growing more to be like that," he says. "Studios used to control what and who can be shown in the spotlight, and now the people can decide instead."
