NOLA residents will soon share space with LGBTQ+ legends and icons. Ground-breaking celebrities and activists like "Orange is the New Black"'s Laverne Cox, award-winning singer/actor Billy Porter, history-defining politicians and Civil Rights Leaders such as Harvey Milk and Barbara Jordan are just a few of the trailblazing individuals highlighted in the "Standing on the Shoulders of Heroes" and "Never Silent" exhibits opening in New Orleans on October 19th.

New Orleans is the next stop for the "Standing on the Shoulders of Heroes" and "Never Silent" exhibits, which previously visited Philadelphia and New York after debuting in multiple Florida cities. Fort Lauderdale's Stonewall National Museum, Archives, & Library and the LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana have teamed up to make the New Orleans event a reality and to create a space for Stonewall to share multiple exhibits over the next six months.

"In Philadelphia and New York, attendees shared powerful emotional experiences as they witnessed the depth of talent in the queer community. Some of these names were new to them, others were so familiar that we take them for granted. It was unusual to stand with them and get a sense of what they accomplished individually, and how collectively they have changed the world as we knew it," said Stonewall National Museum's Executive Director Robert Kesten. "We look forward to capturing the hearts and minds of the people of New Orleans and the city's millions of tourists who visit the exhibits."

"The Stonewall National Museum, Archives, & Library has masterfully crafted these exhibits, and our community here in New Orleans will benefit greatly from the opportunity to view them," said LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana Executive Director Frank Perez. "This exhibit serves as a powerful reminder that the strides we've made as a community were achieved by ordinary people with extraordinary vision."

The New Orleans exhibit will open on October 19th at St. Anne's Episcopal Church Dodwell House Community Resource Center, 1313 Esplanade Ave New Orleans, LA 70116
