Tom Daley Wins Silver in Paris Olympics With Husband, Sons in Attendance

After coming out of retirement thanks to his young son's request, out British diving champion Tom Daley added a silver medal to his Olympic triumphs, which includes having taken the gold in 2021.

"The beloved diver, 30, won silver alongside Noah Williams for Team Great Britain in the men's synchronized 10-meter platform at the Paris Aquatics Center on Monday, July 29," People Magazine reported, adding that they came in second after "China's Lian Junjie and Yang Hao."

Added People Mag: "The medal marks a poignant moment for Daley, as this will likely be his final Olympic event ever."

Daley, married to American screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, famously returned to Olympic competition after their son expressed a wish to see his dad compete in the games. Daley had seemingly retired from competition after winning the gold in 2021 at the Tokyo Summer Olympics.

But, the Associated Press reported last summer, a "visit to the Olympic and Paralympic Museum with Robbie made him realize he wasn't done with diving."

Said Daley: "I don't think I was ready to kind of hang up my trunks and move on with that part of my life.... and especially when my son Robbie said to me, 'Pappa, I want to see you dive again in the Olympics.'"

Young Robbie's wish came true in Paris for this year's Summer Olympics, because Daley "had his entire family in the audience to cheer him on, including husband Dustin Lance Black, 50, and their sons Robbie, 6, and Phoenix, 1," People Mag noted.

The two-year gap in competition meant plenty of hard work as Daley prepared for the Paris games, but, People Mag quoted him as saying, "That's the big thing that I wanted to do, set an example, even to my kids that if you have a dream and you want to set your mind to it, you can get there."

It's an example not just for Daley's kids, but for all LGBTQ+ youth – and their elders, too.
