Let the Begging Begin; 'Natural Marriage' Group Uses Colo. Baker Case For Fundraising Launch
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Brian Brown, president of the anti-LGBTQ National Organization for Marriage (NOM) is hoping that Christmas will come early for his cash-strapped group. He's attempting to capitalize on case of the bigoted Colorado baker to rake in some money.
"One of the most important cases ever involving the religious liberty rights of people of faith is now pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. Briefing in the case is complete," Brown wrote in an email to followers sent on Thursday.
"Next week we plan to begin a major push to rally support for Jack Phillips and the cause of religious freedom, but we need to raise $4,000 in additional funds to be ready to launch our nationwide push," Brown begged.
Brown's NOM has seen waning interest (and more importantly to him) waning cashflow since the 2015 United States Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v Hodges that legalized same-sex marriage. Since that decision, Brown's NOM has seen its signature event, "The March for Marriage" dwindle in attendance. Last year there were fewer than 50 participants despite weeks of aggressive online promotion and fundraising.
Brown ended his money beg email Thursday with a good dose of fear-mongering.
"If Jack Phillips wins his case, we will have helped contain some of the worst damage done to people of faith as a result of the Supreme Court's Obergefell decision redefining marriage," Brown wrote.
"But if Jack loses his case, it will be open season on every person in America who simply does not want to personally be complicit in the lie of same-sex 'marriage.' We will have a huge political fight on our hands to reverse such a legal ruling."
