Works By Women Holds First Parity Party
EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Works By Women proudly announces that it will host the Industry's first Parity Party on October 18 at TheaterLab in Manhattan. The evening of eclectic performances created and/or performed by women is presented to raise awareness and funding toward the organization's goal of reaching gender equality in the theatre.

"The goal of this PARITY PARTY is to raise awareness and to push for gender parity by the year 2020. With women buying nearly 70 percent of all theatre tickets it should be an achievable goal; yet so far it hasn't been realized. If we can raise enough awareness, and have enough support of artists, audiences and industry, we can achieve this," said Works By Women Founder Ludovica Villar-Hauser.

The evening will feature live performances from women companies and artists including New Perspectives Theatre Company, Flux Theatre Ensemble, FAB Woman, Honest Accomplice Theatre, Performance Artist Autumn Kioti, Comedian Lizzy Bryce, Author/Playwright Laura Pedersen, Musicians Brittany and Kendra Jo Brook, Una Eggerts, and Jessica Carvo.
The event will showcase excerpts from Chisa Hutchinson's "Dead and Breathing," Sylvia Milo's "The Other Mozart," and Jody Christopherson's "Because You Are Good."
The party will also feature a silent auction including a deluxe king room at The Standard Highline Hotel, 5 days and 4 nights in Cancun, five-hour rehearsal space at TheaterLab, and even an aerial lesson with Autumn Kioti. The silent auction is live at http://worksbywomen2015.eflea.ca

Works By Women supports theatrical work written, directed, and/or designed by women by promoting their work online, in the press and on social media. The website serves as a tool for theatergoers and professionals alike. The organization's site features productions with creative teams (writers, directors, and designers) comprised of at least 50 percent women and highlights women's theatre companies and advocacy groups.
Works By Women also hosts a database of playwrights, directors, and designers whose work has been seen as part of one or more of the Works by Women "Play" Dates. "Play" Dates are organized to attend theatre productions, thus supporting with both time and money women theatre artists and the productions that hire them.
The Party Party will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 18 at TheaterLab, 357 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor, Between 8th and 9th Avenues. Tickets are $35. For tickets, visit www.WorksbyWomen.org/Parity-Party.html.
