DJ Guy Scheiman's PRIDE is Alive and Unstoppable

JC Alvarez READ TIME: 6 MIN.

These days it takes more than just the tricked-out skills on the turntable and a sizably impressive digital music collection to become one of the more popular names on the DJ circuit. It takes personality, a genuine love of the art of music and the distinct intuition to feel the warmth coming from crowd that works to make the people happy! Guy Scheiman is the latest international import to the club spectrum, marking his territory and leaving an indelible impression wherever he goes.

When I caught up with the personably enthusiastic Sheiman, it was during the wee hours of the morning in his native Tel Aviv, or in this case - the perfect time to catch-up with the high-demand DJ who is in the midst of touching base in New York City to celebrate the Pride Season. "I'm a vampire! I don't sleep - I just work," Scheiman joked, but in actuality he's always preferred the high-stakes, high-energy lifestyle of a music impresario.

About pursuing his DJ dreams, Scheiman said: "I was curious --I'd always been a clubber," he said, "but I basically started DJing in Tel Aviv in one of the local clubs here - and I think that was the way to go." With his pulse on the beats per minute that were generating within the music scene, Scheiman really got a feel and experience for what was going on in the clubs. He brought all that research into the studio with him when he began to experiment with party set-lists, establishing his own style.

"I've always been exposed to many different genres," Scheiman shared, "from Deep House, to Tech House, to Tribal, and I took all that and all the musical exposure into my own productions - into my own style, which sometimes is much more Global especially for my official remixes which have to reach a bigger audience." As a music producer, Scheiman was quickly running a sprint, decidedly jumping right into the thick of things.

Unstoppable Remixer!

In the comparatively short time Scheiman has been working with music - producing and DJing - he has established a celebrity wish list the envy of many of his contemporaries. He's remixed projects for chart-toppers including Iggy Azalea, Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga, and joined an impressive assembling of remixes on last years Amy Grant "In Motion (The Remixes)" comeback project with his take on Grant's classic hit "You're Not Alone."

Trusting his musical instinct, Scheiman narrates that the experience he provides as a musician is as much about fulfilling his own enjoyment as it is about reading his audience. "If it's something that I'm going to spin for a primarily gay audience," he said, "I tend to add a bit more of the 'gay-ingredient' - maybe a little more 'Cha-Cha-Cha'!" Scheiman is referring to the mostly boisterous bounce that is evident in today's club dance music. It's highly prevalent in his most current hit "Alive" featuring Hannah Gold.

The bouncy and electric symphonic is already a hit on Billboard. "I used to work as a tech on other Billboard winning tracks," Scheiman shared, "but when it's my own release - Its major! To be accepted on that international platform - I'm always amazed!"

Fast on the heels of that track's success Scheiman is also caught up in the rapture of the following hit "You Are Unstoppable" from Conchita Wurst. The eerily electronic-romp is full of muscle and affirmatively joyful, easily synching it as one of the gay scene's "songs of the summer". Scheiman's repertoire is varied and includes those soulful anthemic beats. Rhythms and power vocals still weave themselves into his soundtrack, but there's a much more celebratory syncopation emitting from the hallowed sound systems of today's big rooms.

"Whenever I get a new project," Scheiman said, "I decide what I want to put into that recipe. I always explore what characters I want to use in the story that I want to tell," never forgetting at the base the audience that will be digesting the beats, or the artist that he's been hired to color in a different light. "I don't force myself onto a song. I listen to the original - I listen to the vocal; I imagine what the story is." Scheiman prefers to explore the twist in a track.

On The PRIDE Circuit

Though Scheiman has played to club revelers across the circuit landscape, he's very excited to be returning to New York City, especially during PRIDE season for a special return appearance at the Thursday night mainstay "NSA" (No Strings Attached) at the Cellar Bar in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. The DJ will be kicking off New York City PRIDE with the Brian Rafferty event on Thursday, June 25.

"For me to come to America and spin during PRIDE at NSA," Scheiman said, "it's amazing!" He's looking infectious forward to returning to NSA for PRIDE, even tough he's center of what many in clubland consider the epicenter of nightlife. Israel's Tel Aviv continues to draw many visitors in search of its vibrant nightlife and thriving culture. "I think Tel Aviv is very much a mirror of the Israeli people," Scheiman insists. "Israelis are known for 'living life' - we've been in a lot of conflict and you hear so much about the region, but the mentality is to do everything really fast - very intense - like there is no tomorrow."

Fortunately for many of us, DJ Guy Scheiman continues to raise the profile of his home country, and especially serves as the "Israeli Ambassador of the Beats Per Minute". With his infectious enthusiasm and dedication to bringing heart into the club scene, revelers are being reminded of what has brought them out and onto the dance floor in the first place...and that's to have fun - something that Scheiman is happy to remind them of every time he's behind the turntables.

Don't miss DJ Guy Scheiman when he returns to New York City to celebrate PRIDE at NSA at the Cellar Bar located at 40 West 40th Street in New York City. For tickets visit nsapride.eventbrite.com.
