On Saturday, March 14, the community will "Come Together to Beat Cancer" at FAU's Boca Raton campus for the 15th Annual Paps Corps Walkathon, to raise funds for cancer prevention. The event will feature the music of The Beatles in a fun-filled '60s theme party.
"Come Together is not only a classic Beatles song, it's the message we want to send to the community," said Beverly Berkowitz, Co-Vice President of Fundraising. "We can beat cancer if we work together to help support research."
Attendees will celebrate the Flower Power generation by wearing psychedelic inspired T-shirts, singing along with the Orlando-based Nowhere Band (a Beatles tribute band) and taking photos with the University of Miami mascot.
There will also be meet-and-greets with leading cancer doctors including Dr. Charles Vogel, Dr. Brian Slomovitz and Dr. Ronan Swords, who is the first recipient of The Pap Corps Endowed Professorship in Leukemia.
"This Walkathon is for members, family, friends and anyone who supports cancer research. It is the perfect event for anyone who wants to enjoy a morning of classic Beatles music, food, fun and more," said Joyce Brett, Co-Vice President of Fundraising.
The Walkathon is the biggest fundraising event for The Pap Corps, Champions of Cancer Research. Since its inception, The Corps has donated more than $50 million dollars for research to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine for research on all types of cancer.
The Paps Walkathon will be held at 8:30 am on Saturday, March 14 at FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Rd. in Boca Raton. Walkathon registration, including a T-shirt, is only $20.
