Dana Goldberg Headlines Palm Springs Purple Room
Winnie McCroy READ TIME: 2 MIN.
On Saturday, January 17, comedian Dana Goldberg will headline The Purple Room Restaurant and Stage's Comedy Night Palm Springs, along with Nico Santos.
"We are thrilled to bring these two nationally known hilarious stand-up comics to Palm Springs," said co-producer Randal Black. "The show has gotten national attention and renowned comics of film and TV are asking to do the show. It has definitely put Palm Springs on the national comedy map. The comics consistently tell us that the Palm Springs audience is one of the best in the country."
In the 1960s the Purple Room was the club where Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. performed and came with their friends to eat, drink and play. It's one of only two remaining original Rat Pack hangouts in Palm Springs. In 2013, Tony Marchese and Mark Van Laanen, co-owners of TRIO Restaurant in Palm Springs, re-opened the space as Purple Room Restaurant and Stage.
They have since hosted high-caliber comedians like Dana Goldberg, who was named "One of the Top Five Lesbian Comics in the Country" by Curve Magazine. She starred in the program "One Night Standup" on Logo TV, and has played Caroline's on Broadway in New York and The Hollywood Improv.
A rising star, Santos has worked with some of the best names in the business including Margaret Cho, Sandra Bernhard and Dave Chappelle. Santos, a performer at The World Famous Comedy Store, was a former regular on E! Network's "Chelsea Lately."
"Audiences tell us they are excited to see stand-up comics they have seen on TV and in films perform live at the show and also to be able to meet and talk with them," said co-producer Michael Blackwell. "The comics we bring out are in high demand and we are excited that they want to include Comedy Night Palm Springs on their performance and tour schedules."
Raised by a wild pack of Jews otherwise known as her mother and siblings, Goldberg is a force of nature on stage. She sets the standard for smart comedy, timing and tongue-in-cheek edginess and has performed in clubs and theaters all over the world.
Her debut DVD "Hot And Bothered: Dana Goldberg Live" prompted Emmy award-winning comedian David Brenner to rave, "One of the best ways to beat the recession is with laughs, and Dana Goldberg offers you one of your best chances to get some in her debut DVD."
Goldberg has shared the national stage with President Barack Obama, Jane Lynch and the cast of "GLEE," Lady Gaga, Kathy Griffin, Portia de Rossi, Judy Gold, David Brenner and Kathy Najimy.
Purple Room co-owner Tony Marchese added, "The shows make for a perfect, exciting evening of cocktails, dinner and sidesplitting laughs."
With every monthly show for the past five years sold out, get your tickets now for only $20. Dinner seating begins at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m..
