Kathy Griffin confirmed Monday that E! offered her the job to replace her late good friend, Joan Rivers, on the network's breakout "Fashion Police," People magazine reports.
"They did offer it to me," she told People at the Make Equality Reality gala hosted by Equality Now in Beverly Hills. "I don't know if the situation is correct or right at this time for me. We'll see."
E! execs said they are "still in talks with people and is making no announcements at this time," however. "Fashion Police" has been off the air since Rivers, 81, went into the hospital in September and later died from low blood oxygen during a routine medical procedure on her vocal cords.
In September it was first reported that "Fashion Police" producers, including Rivers' daughter Melissa Rivers, were on the lookout to replace the late iconic comedian, and that they were setting their hoping for Griffin, 54.
"Fashion Police" won't return to the air until the Golden Globes on Jan. 12, which means producers have two more months to lock in a new host. Producers reportedly created a shortlist, of both men and women, to fill Joan Rivers' shoes.
A source told Page Six that Griffin was pushing for the hosting position while Joan Rivers was in a coma. But Griffin's rep, Justin Ongert, denied the rumor, saying: "It's just not true. It wasn't Kathy. I know because it would have had to go through me."
A spokesperson for E! also denied the allegations.
"It's not about replacing Joan Rivers - no one can replace Joan Rivers. Ever," Giuliana Rancic, "Fashion Police" cohost told People magazine last month. "It's more about the show just being a great show and a fun show."
It was also reported that "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star NeNe Leakes was up for the position as well.
