Fiddlehead Presents 'Aida' with the AIDS Action Committee
EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Fiddlehead Theatre Company will present the exclusive Boston production of Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida" from October 17-26, 2014, to kick off their 2nd season as resident company at Boston's historic Strand Theatre (543 Columbia Road, Dorchester, MA).
This enormous musical won a Tony Award in 2000 for it's eclectic, rock-operatic score by the pop star Elton John, and the John/Rice team brought Broadway one of its most mammoth successes, "The Lion King." It's little wonder at the turn of the century Walt Disney Theatrical jumped on board to produce this classic tale of the romance between an Egyptian soldier and an enslaved Nubian princess.
"Aida" will be presented in collaboration with AIDS Action Committee, with 5% of every ticket sold going to support AAC's programs. "Aida" will be the first of three Tony-Award winning rock musicals on tap for Fiddlehead in 2014-2015, followed by "The Wiz" (February 13-22, 2015) and Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Jesus Christ Superstar" (April 24-May 3, 2015). Performance tickets are $25-$45 each. Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 617-229-6494 or online at www.fiddleheadtheatre.com. Student, senior and group discounts are available.
"We are thrilled to present the exclusive of Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida" as the first of three spectacular pop-rock musicals at the Strand," said Fiddlehead Producing Artistic Director Meg Fofonoff. "In partnership with Mayor Martin J. Wash and the City of Boston, Fiddlehead looks forward welcoming theater-goers to the Strand for these powerful Broadway hits that continue to resonate with all audiences. Elton John and Tim Rice's 'Aida' is an uplifting story about love that defies cultural and social differences. It's the perfect complement to Fiddlehead's mission of building community through the arts."
