Falling Forward: Fashion Preview

From hip to high-end, this season takes menswear in a multitude of directions. No matter your style, EDGE will have you looking your best with our favorite picks of the season.

French Connection
The U.K. brand reinvents itself, once again, with a fall/winter collection fronted by Troy Von Scheibner in a sexy and whimsical campaign that goes beyond pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The collection features a brooding and muted color palette with an emphasis on dark grays and navy with pops of ochre and crimson. Casual sweaters, jackets and Ts are well proportioned and ready for a cool night on the town.

ASOS

Headquartered in North London, ASOS has taken the online shopping world by storm since its 2000 launch. It's the second most-visited fashion website in the world - and with good reason.

If you're a twentysomething, you've arrived at nirvana with a personalized, all-digital shopping experience. In addition to plenty of black and white, you'll find vibrant pops of orange, cobalt and other eye-catching colors, strategically used in quilted outerwear vests, backpacks and sneakers.

Outclass

Oh, Canada. Toronto-based Outclass is both rugged and refined. This season's collection, titled "Out of the Woods," is purposefully casual with modern styling. Playing with patterns and texture, the brand delivers a stunning, oversized red-and-black hunter plaid jacket with leather sleeves and chunky buttons. For those with a less dramatic aesthetic, neutral cardigans offer a cozy alternative paired with cuffed, bootcut denim.

D&Y

"Does anyone still wear a hat?" the late Elaine Stritch said in the original Broadway production of Company. While we lost Ms. Stritch this summer, the answer is a resounding yes. In 1977, after noticing the emerging pop-culture scene in downtown Manhattan, the founders began selling sunglasses to independent boutiques on St. Mark's Place, and David & Young was born.

Lauren Bittman, vice president of merchandising, product development and design, offers an inside scoop on this season's collection, saying, "The Fall/Winter 2014 Men's Collection was designed based on timeless looks with a focus on traditional, clean-cut silhouettes. Oversized knits in authentic marled and cable patterns dominate in the scarf category, while textured fabrications and structured lines take over in the hat category."

New Look

On trend since its launch more than 40 years ago, New Look now has 1,160 stores worldwide, interpreting fashion trajectories and making them accessible for a wide range of customers. This seasons draws from nautical as well as a touch of mod and punk. Aquatic prints offer an adventurous twist with ocean blue tones. Seaside grunge throws beanies into the mix, while the Vinyl collection incorporates tartan and houndstooth plaids into tailored streetwear.

Tom Ford

If you've got bucks to burn, Tom Ford is your man, returning with yet another stunning collection, if perhaps a bit toned down compared with last spring's color-popping designs. Taupe and midnight blue appear among other neutrals, all masterfully intersected among a solid collection of sportswear. Now raising toddler Jack with longtime partner Richard Buckley, perhaps Ford is going for a more approachable style for baby daddies and their well-appointed husbands.

Brioni

Beware, holiday party 2014. If you're looking to upstage your host, boss or boyfriend, Brioni has you covered. Creative Director Brendan Mullane has combined elements from an Italian color palette, Japanese wools and American suit styles. The result is startling and pushing the boundaries of the brand. "To me, it's quintessentially Brioni," Mullane said of the collection in an interview with Style.com. "Everything has that nod to Italian sartorialism, but taken to the next level."
