Gay Days & Girl Daze at Wonderland
Kali Londono READ TIME: 3 MIN.
Get your fairy dust out as the magic begins June 2nd and continues to ignite the days and nights through June 6th at the Girls in Wonderland's 10th anniversary party - the hottest women's party during Gay Days in Orlando, Florida, home to the Magic Kingdom. Pandora Events, the powerhouse lesbian event production company from South Beach is behind this hugely popular week of fun, frolic and fantasy taking over not one but two hotels and as Amy Alonso (co-founder) promises, "you know you're going to have a good time at our events".
With the goal wishing to cater to everybody; there's a comedy show, pool parties at both hotels with some of the hottest DJ's spinning, live musical performances, sexy go-go dancers and, of course, their signature anniversary party at the House of Blues where this year's theme is Rock & Roll. Amy adds, "House of Blues night is always crazy. Every year we sell out." That's over 2,000 beautiful women to sweat and groove the night away and this year's event will shine even brighter as the ladies from Pandora Events have partnered up with the sexy ladies of the Real L Word, Rose Garcia, Whitney Mixter and Tracy Ryerson to co-host the much anticipated "I Love Rock & Roll" night.
The First Trip to Wonderland
So how did Girls in Wonderland evolve into one of the sexiest women's week? Via Skype (you gotta love technology). Amy explained that she and her girlfriend at the time and co-founder of Pandora Events, Yesenia Leon, decided to head north and hit the now infamous Gay Day at Disney World and while they had a fantastic time, when the magic kingdom closed, there was nowhere for ladies to continue the magic. Amy stated, "we went there and there was nothing for the girls to do. Nothing."
Already successful hosting women's events in South Beach along with their other partner, Alison Burgos, they saw a need and decided to throw a party the following year. It began as a one night event with over 800 women in attendance and quickly grew into the wondrous week-long event it is today. Their success and ability to bring in the ladies quickly landed them a contract with the House of Blues. As for the name, Amy says, "we were thinking Disney...Alice in Wonderland; why don't we call it Girls in Wonderland - make it a wonderland of all these women."
Their success also comes from their shared belief of giving back to the community. As Amy so eloquently put it, "We work for the community. We want to help our community. We're not just a circuit party. All of our events benefit a charity with the exception of Aqua Girl, which is a 100% charity event for the Aqua Girl Foundation" For those of you curious to know which fortunate organization the Girls in Wonderland benefits it's the NCLR, a national legal resource center that advances the rights and safety of lesbians and their families through litigation, public policy, and education. NCLR also provides representation and resources to gay men and bisexual and transgender individuals on key issues that support lesbian rights.
These ladies definitely love what they do and sprinkle a little fairy dust on every event they throw. Amy shared with me, "we're trying to cover every detail so you can just relax and have a good time. We actually have our travel agency license!" Paying attention to details is what these girls do right down to providing shuttles to and from this year's parties. It's one stop shop so check out www.girlsinwonderland.com to book your travel, hotel and buy tickets. This is a party you don't want to miss.
Get ready to Rock & Roll it at this year's 10th anniversary Girls in Wonderland week at Gay Days in Orlando, Florida June 2nd - 6th and while you're shaking your tail-feathers you'll also be helping by giving back to our community. Now what isn't magical about that?
In addition to the girlicious Girls in Wonderland you can check out their main website at the Pandora Events website for other upcoming events.
