Delta Says it Will Now Include 'Rocketman,' 'Booksmart' Gay Romance Scenes

Delta Air Lines says it will now provide edits of the films "Rocketman" and "Booksmart" that include gay sex scenes after reports surfaced that claimed versions of the films removed same-sex intimacy, BuzzFeed reports.

The move comes just days after it was reported that the company showed edited versions of the Elton John biopic and the teen comedy that removed same-sex intimacy and key moments from the films.

"We are working to make sure this doesn't happen again," Delta said in a statement to BuzzFeed.

In a statement to Variety, the airline's spokesperson Emma Protis said the company is "immediately putting a new process in place for managing content available through Delta's in-flight entertainment."

Variety reports Delta also restoring the gay sex scene in "Rocketman." Protis went on to say that cutting the scenes was not Delta's decision.

"Studios often provide videos in two forms: a theatrical, original version and an edited version. We selected the edited version and now realize content well within our guidelines was unnecessarily excluded from both films. We are working to make sure this doesn't happen again," Protis said. "The studio has agreed to provide a special Delta edit that retains the LGBTQ+ love scenes in both 'Booksmart' and 'Rocketman' that will be on our flights as soon as possible. Currently, we have 'Gentleman Jack,' 'Imagine Me and You,' and 'Moonlight' onboard, and countless content in the past that clearly shows it is not our practice to omit LGBTQ+ love scenes."

Last week actor Olivia Wilde, who directed "Booksmart," took to Twitter to call out Delta over its censorship of her movie. It was also pointed out that "Rocketman" was edited.
