Watch: Amid Mental Health Rumors, Britney Spears Offers Update to Her Fans

Wednesday Apr 24, 2019

Britney Spears is addressing her mental health in an Instagram video this week after rumors and reports circulated that she was forced into a treatment facility due to the emotional toll her father's health has taken on her.

"Hi guys, just checking in with all of you who are concerned about me," Spears, 37, said in a video posted Tuesday. "All is well. My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately, so I just needed time to deal but don't worry I'll be back very soon."

The video came with a lengthy caption detailing her current situation.

"I wanted to say hi because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!!" the "Slumber Party" singer wrote to her 21.7 million followers. "Wow!!! There's rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things — crazy things being said. I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that's happening is just making it harder for me.

"Don't believe everything you read and hear," she went on to say.

Spears then took aim at her former manager Sam Lutfi, alleging he sent "fake emails" about her situation.

"I did not write them. He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address," she wrote. "My situation is unique, but I promise I'm doing what's best at this moment. You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want!"

Earlier this month, Spears posted on Instagram that she needs a little "me time" and she did indeed check into a wellness facility this month, according to People magazine's sources, but that it was her own decision. On Sunday, she was released for Easter with her boyfriend Sam Asghari, who told TMZ at the time that she's "doing great."

Some fans who believed she was being held against her will gathered Monday night outside of West Hollywood City Hall demanding she be released, People reports.

In January, as Spears was gearing up for another Las Vegas residency, the pop icon announced she was taking an indefinite break and putting her "Domination" show on hold due to her father's health. The performer's dad became seriously ill after his colon spontaneously erupted but People reports he is now "doing OK."
